Reporting to the General Counsel | Remote — US, UK, Ireland, or Canada
Director of Compliance Build a compliance function from the ground up — for a $0.5B+ e-commerce group operating in 38 countries.
Why This Role Exists
Yomali's compliance function is being rebuilt from the ground up. As the business has grown, so has the workload. Compliance now reports directly into a General Counsel who joined earlier this year and is building the legal function from scratch. We need a leader who can create structure where none exists, and take consumer regulatory compliance and privacy/security from a standing start to a mature, scalable program over the next two years.
What You'll Own
Lead and grow a team of three Compliance Operations Analysts — set expectations, coach, and build consistency across the group
Own day-to-day compliance review operations across our e-commerce and marketplace businesses, with a primary focus on supplements, health & wellness claims, and consumer products
Advise on consumer communications and data compliance: TCPA, TSR, FTC Act, CAN-SPAM, GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy, and CPRA
Build Yomali's privacy and security program from the ground up — data mapping, retention policies, vendor oversight, and security questionnaires
Translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into plain-English guidance that product, marketing, operations, and payments teams can actually use
Serve as a trusted, hands-on partner to two of our portfolio companies — BuyGoods and HelpGrid — as the primary escalation point for compliance issues
What Success Looks Like
First 30–60 days: Partner with Legal Operations to identify and implement early automations
3–6 months: Stabilize personnel and process across our two priority portfolio companies, with a clear roadmap for improvement; kick off a group-level roadmap for security and privacy
12 months: Own regulatory compliance for consumers as your primary focus, while a broader security and privacy roadmap is underway across the group
What We're Looking For
Demonstrated hands-on compliance experience, including direct exposure to US and international consumer protection regulation
Experience managing and developing a team of direct reports.
A genuine track record of building or evolving a compliance function inside a complex, multi-stakeholder environment — not just standing one up at a very small startup
Comfort operating in ambiguity, with sound judgment on when to own a decision and when to escalate it
Ideally, some exposure to privacy and security program-building — data mapping, DPIAs, vendor risk, retention policy
A legal degree is not required — this role is about specialized compliance expertise, not legal practice
Who Thrives Here
People who act as player-managers, not just people-managers. Our best performers take ownership of hard problems, ask the right probing questions to get to root cause, and bring solutions rather than just flagging risk. You'll need genuine presence and strength of character — this is a collaborative role, not a gatekeeping one, and you'll build the kind of trust where colleagues want to work with you, not around you.
Why People Stay / Love Working Here
You'll be shaping a function that doesn't yet have its shape — culture, standards, and operating rhythm included. You'll work directly with a General Counsel who is building the legal organization from the ground up and is looking for a true partner, not order-takers. And you'll do it inside a business with real scale and momentum: Yomali is a e-commerce conglomerate with 5+ autonomous businesses and team members in more than 30 countries — big enough to matter, still building enough that your fingerprints will be all over the outcome.
What's In It For You
Direct access to and partnership with the General Counsel from day one
Genuine autonomy to build the function your way, backed by leadership investment in the right tools
A rare "builder" mandate at Director level — the chance to shape a compliance function's DNA rather than inherit someone else's
Flexible location across the Ireland, UK, US, or Canada
Interview Process
Introductory call with Talent Acquisition
In-depth interview with the General Counsel
Follow-up conversation with key cross-functional stakeholders
